Common Questions

What people ask before they get in touch.

01Do you take my insurance?

No. Dr. Mason is out of network, so Hollow Tree Therapy does not bill your plan, and that includes Medicare and Medicaid. Some plans reimburse part of the cost of out-of-network care. Your plan decides how much, if anything.

02What is a superbill and how do I use it?

A superbill is a monthly itemized receipt you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. A plan may reimburse part of it. We cannot promise that it will.

03What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start. It is an estimate, not a contract. How fees work explains your rights and links to the rules.

04How much does therapy cost?

Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session, so there is nothing to work out at the door. How fees work explains self-pay, receipts and estimates.

05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. Health savings and flexible spending cards are accepted, as long as your plan allows them for counseling.

06What happens in the first session?

We spend about an hour getting to know each other. I explain privacy and its limits, you say what you want from therapy, and we decide together whether to meet again. You never have to tell me what happened to begin.

07How often and how long are sessions?

Individual sessions are 50 minutes and couples sessions are 80. Most people start weekly, then space sessions out as they decide. I plan around shift schedules as far as I can.

08Are you licensed where I live?

Dr. Mason is licensed in Oregon. Video sessions are for clients who are in Oregon at the time of the session. If you live elsewhere, we are glad to help you look for a clinician licensed where you are.

09What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988 any time; veterans and service members can press 1 after dialing. In an emergency, call 911. This office does not monitor calls or messages around the clock.

10What is confidential, and what are the limits?

Your records stay private except where the law requires otherwise: for example, when someone is in immediate danger, or when a child or an elder is being harmed. Nothing goes to an employer or department without your written permission, unless the law requires it. I explain this in full in your first session.

11Do you see teenagers?

No. This practice works with adults. If you are looking for a teen or family clinician, we can help you find one, and a parent or guardian takes part in a minor's care as the clinician's state rules require.

12What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. A later cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session. Emergencies and sudden call-outs happen, and I take that into account.
